Glasgow Museums Resource Centre - Derek Young visited Glasgow Museums Resource Centre who are offering descriptive tours every month to any visually impaired people interested.  Contact 0141 276 9308 to reserve a space on the tour.

Orion Webbox - RNIB are presently field testing this unique piece of audio equipment which allows you to listen to Radio Programmes, Talking Newspapers, Talking Books and almost any audio source which can be accessed via a broadband telephone line without the use of a computer. Ally Smith spoke to  Jamie Cuthbertson about the field tests.

Museum to get a flavour of what’s on offer.

Echolocation (Seeing with Sonar) - Visibility in Glasgow recently organised a visit from Dan Kish, Director of World Access for the Blind, California. He presented a talk on his pioneering work teaching visually impaired people to use echolocation to enhance their mobility.  Margaret Cowie went along to the talk in Yorkhill Hospital. She spoke to Dan Kish and some of those attending.  Echolocation allows a person to make use of sound waves for navigation and is similar to the techniques used by dolphins and bats. Sharp clicks made by the tongue against the roof of the mouth, which produce sound waves that can provide detailed information about the environment, a visually
